Tigers Squeak Out Fifth Straight Win

Thursday, January 26th 2012 00:00

It was a high scoring affair at the Arena on Wednesday night.

After a back and forth matchup with the Prince Albert Raiders at the Arena on Wednesday night, the Medicine Hat Tigers managed to extend their win streak to five games.

The Tigers came into this one sitting fourth in the Eastern Conference, while the Raiders were sitting dead last.  The Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on the backs of goals by James Bettauer and Cole Grbavac.  The Raiders showed some fire in the second, tying the game at 2, before Curtis Valk netted his 16th of the year and Shinkaruk put his 33rd of the season behind goaltender Cole Holowenko on the powerplay.  The teams traded goals before the buzzer went to end the second period, leaving it a 5-3 Tiger advantage heading into the third frame.

Prince Albert came to within a goal before Hunter Shinkaruk completed the hat trick to give the Tigers back their two goal edge.  The Raiders managed to score one more time with the goaltender pulled, but it wasn't enough, as the Tabbies held on for the 6-5 victory.

Next action for the Tigers will be Friday night in Lethbridge to battle the Hurricanes.  This is the sixth meeting between the two this season, with Lethbridge holding a 3-2 edge in wins against the Tigers.
