A former member of the Medicine Hat Police Commission has been charged with fraud. It comes after a six month long investigation that resulted in Rolf Traichel, 45, being arrested. City police allege the fraud activity took place between 2010 and 2016, resulting in more than a $1-million loss to the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education. No other details have been released, but it's believed this was the only organization affected. Traichel was a member of the police commission from January 2012 until his term expired at the end of 2017. He's been released from custody on several conditions and will be back in court September 11th.
