A guilty plea was submitted Friday morning for a man charged in a stabbing that happened in August 2009. The matter was supposed to be in court for trial, but Kenneth MacNiven ended up pleading guilty to a charge of aggravated assault. It stems from an incident on August 9, 2009, when police say a fight broke out in the 700-block of 5th Street SE. The brawl later moved into a nearby parking lot where a 24 year old man received a non-life threatening stab wound. The judge sentenced MacNiven to two years in jail, minus the time he spent in custody pre-trial. The 27 year old MacNiven will spend another eight months behind bars. Charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon were withdrawn.
