I-XL Closing After Flood

A century old brick and tile plant in Medicine Hat is closing its doors.

A century old brick and tile plant in Medicine Hat is closing its doors. June flooding took its toll on IXL Industries, and the company has decided not to rebuild the plant, after being rejected for disaster relief assistance. Malcom Sissons, company president, says it's a disappointing end. "It's a sad moment for the family, it's a sad moment for our employees, many of whom are very senior and have spent most of their lives working for us," said Sissons. "I think it's sad for the community, because of the historic nature of the brick business in Medicine Hat." The brick and tile plant had been open since 1886, and was operated by IXL since 1912.
