Irvine School Students Hold Student Vote

With just days to go until Election Day in Canada, students at Irvine School have casted their ballots.

Students at Irvine School went to the polls on Wednesday as part of a student vote. As part of their curriculum, grade six students ran the polls acting as clerks, returning officers, and scrutineers. Social Studies Teacher, Stuart Shigehiro says the exercise increases interest in the voting process. Shigehiro adds classes spent time learning about the federal candidates. “In class, we would dissect all the platforms and go over each one that way,” Shigehiro says, “Students were free to make their own opinions up after we went over that.” The vote featured students in grades 5 to 9, with the results not being released until polls close on Election Day (Oct. 19). - Logan Piekema
