Jason Kenney to Immediately Seek Seat in Legislature Following Resignation of Long-Time Calgary MLA

Newly elected leader of the United Conservative Party, Jason Kenney, is immediately seeking a seat in the legislature.

Newly elected leader of the United Conservative Party, Jason Kenney, is immediately seeking a seat in the legislature. Long-time Calgary-Lougheed MLA Dave Rodney is stepping down effective Wednesday and Kenney will run in the by-election to replace him. Kenney says the leader of the Official Opposition needs to be in the legislature. He says he's confident Premier Rachel Notley will respect the long-standing Westminster Parliamentary Convention of calling a by-election without delay when there's a party leader seeking entry to the legislature. Kenney was elected leader of the UCP over the weekend where he garnered about 61% of the vote. Fellow candidates Brian Jean and Doug Schweitzer got about 31% and 7% respectively. -Tina Giesbrecht
