Medicine Hat MLA Rob Renner is siding with advocacy groups, which rallied government offices across the country Monday. The groups are pushing to bring a controversial Multiple Sclerosis treatment to Canada, which removes vein blockages in patients. Renner says governing bodies should get the ball rolling. "We as a government need to do everthing that we can, to speed up the knowledge that needs to be gained about this procedure," said Renner. But he adds that there are risks in moving too fast. "I think you run a risk of having some unanticipated consequences if you go too quickly." Renner says Alberta is currently participating in a research program for the treatment. The procedure isn't yet available in Canada, and can cost thousands of dollars overseas.
