Police Partner With CMHA To Battle Addictions

MHPS Insp. Brent Secondiak and CMHA Executive Director Cori Fischer

The collaboration will try to connect those with addictions to treatment and services

A new partnership aimed at addictions has been formed between the Canadian Mental Health Association and Medicine Hat Police.  The new Addictions Crisis Team will focus on identifying high-risk persons with efforts to connect them with treatment and services.  Inspector Brent Secondiak says the teamwork approach is needed to produce long lasting benefits to the community.  Secondiak says, "It's all about collaboration.  We know we can't work on an island and we're not going to change anything in the community just by putting people in jail.  We need to work with our partners at Canadian Mental Health Association, with Community Housing. all of our partners in the community to really affect the problem at hand."  A dedicated police officer and community member will soon be named to take the partnership to the streets.  ~~  Warren Affleck
