Lighting options for Finlay Bridge were once again bandied about by the Development and Infrastructure Committee Wednesday afternoon. Some aldermen are insistent the lights be shone bottom-up in order to show the grandeur of the century-old structure. However, city staff disagree with that notion. Concerns have been raised that lights shining below the bridge may create a glare for drivers and pedestrians trying to cross the bridge at night, so they're proposing the decorative lights be attached at the top of the bridge and shine down. Alderman Ty Schneider says his concern is that would look like "a string of Christmas lights" on top of the bridge. Ironically, city officials do hope to have the lights in place by Christmas.
