The fresh face on Medicine Hat city council hopes to bring with him a new perspective. Political newcomer Kris Samraj was the second highest vote-getter in yesterday's (Oct 16) municipal election, garnering 7,619 votes. After attending council meetings for the last three years to prepare to run, Samraj says it's nice to see all of that work pay off. “It's been a longtime in the making and it's not something that I entered into lightly. The city operation is really massive and really complicated, and I wanted to learn as much as I could,” says Samraj, “But of course, now the hard work begins.” Joining Samraj on city council will be incumbents Robert Dumanowski, Julie Friesen, Jim Turner, Brian Varga, and Jamie McIntosh, along with former councillors Phil Turnbull and Darren Hirsch. - Jaelene Skaley
