School Nutrition Program to Expand to All Alberta Schools

The province says a pilot school nutrition program is being expanded to include all Alberta schools.

A school nutrition program is being rolled out across the entire province. Last year a pilot program was put in place at 33 schools where kids would receive a nutritious meal or snack every day. Education Minister David Eggen says feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with improved student attendance, a decrease in negative behaviour and an increased sense of healthy food choices. Now all school districts in Alberta which were not included in the pilot will receive a grant to implement the nutrition program this year. Some schools in Fort Macleod, Pincher Creek and Cardston took part in the pilot program during the last school year. -Pat Siedlecki
