Sexual Assault Response Team Available In The South Zone

The partnerships will provide better coordinated sexual assault supports and services to victims.

Individuals who have experienced a sexual assault, now can rely on an improved system in Southeast Alberta.  Alberta Health Services announced improved partnerships that will also see more options for medical care and access to a specialized team of doctors.  AHS South Zone SART Team Lead and Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Lena Derie-Gillespie, says those who have experienced such a trauma now have the option to seek medical care only, have doctors report it to police, or they can choose to have evidence collected anonymously while the individual decides what steps they want to take next.  The new partnerships will also see improved access  for things like counselling and other community supports.  In the last 5 years, emergency departments in Medicine Hat, Bow Island, Brooks, Bassano, and Oyen provided care to 114 people who reported being sexually assaulted.  ~~  Warren Affleck
