Word that I-XL won't rebuild it's local brick and tile plant comes as a shock to the Medicine Hat Chamber of Commerce. Chair Milvia Bauman says she got the news on a flight to Ottawa. "To get off the airplane and have my phone go crazy and it's all been I-XL, yes it is sad." said Bauman. The company was hit hard by June flooding and was rejected assistance through the Disaster Recovery Program. Officials say their head office will remain in Medicine Hat for other clay and masonry businesses. "I think we're losing an icon in our city," said Mayor Norm Boucher. "Brick has been a big part of Medicine Hat if you look at the around the buildings in the downtown."
