Vigil Held At College

The vigil commemorates the 28th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre

Wednesday, December 6, marks the 28th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre where Mark Lepine gunned down 14 woman at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal.  10 more young women and 4 men were wounded in the attack that changed the country.  Locally, the day will be remembered with a presentation and vigil sponsored by the Medicine Hat Women's Shelter Society.  Medicine Hat Women's Shelter Society Executive Director Natasha Carvalho says this years day of remembrance will take place at the Medicine Hat College.  Carvalho says, "We just think it's important that we take a minute and pause and just remember those women who lost their lives that day.  Also to remind us that we're still fighting violence against women and misogyny and all those kinds of things.  It's really important to draw attention to it and just take a moment and remember."  The commemoration event runs from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in the main college foyer with the public encouraged to attend.  ~~  Warren Affleck
