Woman Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter

Barbara Holmes entered the plea to the lesser charge on the opening day of her trial

A Medicine Hat woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of her husband.  The Court of Queen's Bench judge and jury trial had been scheduled for 2 weeks when the plea was entered on the opening day.  Barbara Holmes was originally charged with second degree murder, but entered the plea to the lesser charge connection to the death of her husband John Homes in June of 2016.  Police said when they arrived at the Robinson Drive SE residence, they found John Holmes suffering multiple serious injuries, including stab wounds.  Barbara Holmes has been in custody since her arrest and had her case adjourned so a pre-sentence report can be completed before a sentencing hearing is held.  ~~  Warren Affleck
