A single vehicle crash on the Trans Canada Highway this morning snarled traffic for a few hours in Medicine Hat.

Medicine Hat Police say it happened just before 8:00 am when a westbound BMW lost control at the 6 Street SW intersection, hitting a light standard.

Emergency Services crews and city workers were on the scene directing traffic until the lights could be repaired and the debris was cleaned from the roadway.

The 53 year old man driving the BMW was not injured, but he was charged with failing to stop before enter an intersection on a yellow light.

Damages in the crash are estimated at $80,000
