The City of Medicine Hat is shuttering it’s solar thermal plant.

Commissioner, Energy and Utilities Division, Cal Lenz, says research and development innovation project was to determine how Concentrated Solar Thermal technology would perform in southern Alberta.

Lenz said in a press release, the project has met all the criteria for information gathering over the last five years and the data has been submitted to Alberta Innovates.

The City is working to determine the future of the CST facility and options for the site itself, including the possibility of turning the it into a future innovation park for renewable energy.

It is expected that the Energy and Utilities Division will bring options and recommendations for the CST and site to Council by this fall.
