Two area school divisions say there will not be a mass layoff of staff.

On the weekend, the provincial government announced a massive funding cut to school boards.

Medicine Hat Public School Division says for now, there will be no directed layoffs of instructional staff, educational assistants, clerical, custodial or staff who work for our system.

Officials say a way was found to realize the savings the government expects.

Prairie Rose School Division says after talking with staff, 35 voluntarily chose to be laid off, with all others retained,
