Despite warmer temperatures, The City of Medicine Hat says there is still a danger of frozen water pipes.

The Environmental Utilities Department says crews having been going non-stop since the first of February dealing with frozen pipe issues.

General Manager Brian Murphy says there is an easy step residents can take.

Murphy says, “Keep flowing (your) water taps even as the weather gets warmer.  It might seem counter-intuitive, but, it’s going to take awhile for the frost to come out of the ground.  The ground is really frozen, so water pipes can still freeze in that frost.  We want to encourage people to keep running those taps.”

Murphy says it’s primarily older neighborhoods where the bulk of frozen pipes are happening, but residents in newer areas should also take note.
