November is Family Violence Prevention Month and the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society is bringing awareness to the masses.

The organization kicked the month off with a proclamation signing and memorial walk Thursday afternoon.

Executive Director Natasha Carvalho says family violence affects everyone.

Carvalho says, “I think you’re going to know somebody, if you’re not affected by it directly, you’re going to know somebody.  Our biggest thing is know how to help them.  Where to send them for services.  Know what the signs are.  Know how to support them.  Know what the signs are.  You know, people need to be heard and people need some support.  That’s the biggest thing, it’s not just a hidden issue, it affects all of us.”

A full listing of awareness events can be found on the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society Facebook page.
