Police in Medicine Hat, AB are warning of a possible bad batch of opioids on city streets.

Officers responded to 2 overdose calls this morning and say Narcan was successfully used by EMS in both cases.

Inspector Brent Secondiak says the calls came in close together and in the same area of the city.

Secondiak says, “We believe the people that were in medical distress, they thought they were using an opioid, likely heroin.  It appears that whatever drug they were taking was likely more than heroin.  Probably fentanyl or a different derivative.”

Secondiak says the drugs have been sent for testing, but that could take time, which is the reason for issuing a public warning.
