The UCP government has unveiled details of a review of supervised consumption sites.

The 8 member panel will look at issues including crime and the impact on property values, but not the merits of the facilities or provincial funding.

The committee will be co chaired by former Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht.

Knecht says, “In my career in law enforcement, I’ve seen the effects of illicit drugs on communities.  I know these effects can be devastating, both in terms of public safety and the tragic loss of life.  I’ve also seen the effects of these sites in a number of communities.”

The panel will visit Medicine Hat, where a proposed site has been put on hold.

It’s expected that meeting will take place sometime next month.  ~~  with files from 660News
