The City of Medicine Hat made a significant amount of money last week selling electricity.

Medicine Hat city council heard that it was worth it to sell the excess power to the provincial grid.

Energy and Utility Commissioner Brad Maynes says the City sold around 100 megawatts of power.

Maynes says “Prices were exceptionally high last week.  It was a confluence of a whole bunch of factors coming into play.  We didn’t have a lot of wind across the province, you know, the wind chills were really low, there wasn’t a lot of wind.  It was just enough and then we had a couple of coal plants that were down as well, so the combination of that really sent that price high”.

Mayor Ted Clugston told reporters following the meeting that a few million dollars in revenue was made.
