A big vote from the Alberta’s vets is calling for a ban on cosmetic procedures on pets, but it’s not effective immediately.

Declawing and tail docking have been banned in several provinces including BC and Nova Scotia.

Cypress View Vet Clinic Director of Administration Tammy Duggan says Cypress View moved away from doing a lot of the procedures years ago

Duggan says, “Here at Cypress View, we have not been doing many of the items they are selecting not to do in the first place.  For example, we haven’t done ear-cropping or de-barking, I’m not sure if we ever did it.  So, it’s been decades”

Provincial vets also passed a motion that signs of animal abuse and neglect be reported to the appropriate law enforcement agency

It’s hoped the rules will become official by the summer.
